Aside from just wanting your car to look amazing, modifications are also great for improving the way the car runs if you are not happy with it. However, it is crucial to remember that New Zealand has rules and regulations surrounding the modifications that you can make to your car. Any uncertified vehicle modifications can prevent you from obtaining a WOF for your vehicle.

Tinting
Tinting is probably one of the most common forms of aesthetic car modifications, not only does it help protect your car from glare, tinting can offer you heat and UV protection and give your car a great look and ultimate privacy.
However, keep in mind that NZTA has rules and regulations on tinting and in order to keep your car obtaining it’s WOF then you should stick to these! We recommend only using legal tints and checking the guidelines for tinting here.
Lowering
Lowering can be great for changing the car’s overall appearance. Essentially swapping out the original, manufacturer’s suspensions system with a custom-made lowered one. Whilst the manufacturer’s system was made so that you are provided with the perfect ride, there are many experts now that can deliver top quality lowering services so you can keep that smooth ride.
Lowering your car is definitely a great option for head-turning good looks, and the lowered center of gravity makes for better handling features. In addition to this, better aerodynamics will give you a smoother ride as you increase your speed. It will feel as if the vehicle is more in contact with the road than if you simply kept your old suspension system.

Wheels/Tires
Something you may have noticed when you see an extremely good looking car, is that they always have good tires/wheels. This is another great aesthetic modification you can make to your ride. A bigger wheel/tire combo not only looks cool, it reduces the tire’s sidewall height. The sidewall is the part of the tire between the inside diameter (where the tire meets the wheel) and the outside diameter (where the tire meets the pavement). The more sidewall you have, the more cushion there is between you and the road.
When you are looking into upgrading your tires or wheels, you should also note that not all tires are created equal. Performance tires are generally made with softer compounds, which increase traction but also increase road noise and reduce tire life. A touring tire is designed for how most of us run of the mill drivers use our cars, on highways and open roads at average speeds. These tires last much longer and ride a bit softer, so are usually a good option to go for!
